Secure Sockets Layer, or SSL, is a protocol employed to encrypt the information exchanged between a web server and its users. The practical application of employing an SSL is to secure the information that site visitors submit on your site - a login page, a payment page if you run an Internet store, and so on. Any data they type in in any box on the website shall be submitted safely to the server, so their login or payment information will be protected from being accessed by unauthorized individuals. Normally, an SSL certificate needs a dedicated IP address to be installed, which means the overall cost for your online presence shall be higher. While this might not be an issue for a larger company, it may matter for a non-profit organization or a small online store which does not generate big profits if additional money should be spent. That is the main reason why we have taken advantage of an extension called Server Name Indication (SNI) and we've made it possible to use a shared server IP address to install an SSL certificate.

Shared SSL IP in Shared Hosting

You shall be able to use this option with all of our shared hosting packages and with any SSL certificate issued from any vendor. If you decide to use an SSL from our company, everything shall be set up automatically and you won't need to do anything after you obtain and approve the certificate. The SSL order wizard will permit you to select a shared IP to be used and the SSL to be set up by our system, so using this function requires a maximum of 2 additional mouse clicks after you fill the needed info for the certificate. The appropriate functioning of the SSL won't be impacted in any way and any information which site visitors submit on your website will be encrypted and protected in the same exact way. The sole difference from using a dedicated address is that http:// will not open your Internet site, but it is unlikely that anyone will ever try to access it this way rather than typing your domain in the web browser URL bar.

Shared SSL IP in Semi-dedicated Hosting

Any SSL certificate can be used with our specifically configured shared IPs, thus if you have a semi-dedicated hosting account, you can use this option with merely a few mouse clicks when you install a certificate you obtain through us or through any other retailer. For the SSLs that we offer you are also able to take advantage of another function and have our system set everything up for you. In this way the moment you approve the SSL, the shared IP address will be set for the particular domain or subdomain and the certificate shall be installed with no action needed on your end, and thus any data that website visitors submit on your site shall be protected. The SSL shall function in the same exact way no matter if it is set on a shared or a dedicated IP address and the only thing that's different between the two setups is that typing the shared IP as a URL inside an Internet browser shall not open your Internet site.
