In accordance with the policies adopted by ICANN, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, the contact info a domain is registered with must be valid and accurate all the time. In addition, this info is openly accessible on WHOIS lookup sites and while this may be okay for organizations, it may not be very acceptable for individuals, since anyone can see their names and their personal email and home addresses, particularly in times when identity fraud is not that infrequent. For this reason, registrar companies have come up with a service that conceals the details of their clients without altering them. The service is called ID Protection, Privacy Protection or WHOIS Protection. If it’s enabled, people will see the details of the registrar, not the domain owner’s, if they make a WHOIS inquiry. The ID Protection service is supported by all generic top-level domain name extensions, but it is still not possible to hide your personal information with some country-code ones.

ID Protection in Shared Hosting

You can quickly enable ID Protection for any domain name that you have registered with our company if you have a shared hosting account with us. This can be done through the very same Hepsia Control Panel, via which you administer the hosting account itself, so you will not have to use different admin dashboards. In the very same section where all your active domain names will be listed, there will be an “ID Protect” icon for each domain name whose extension supports this service. The status of this icon will quickly show you if the ID Protection service is activated for a particular domain or not and by clicking on that icon you can enable the service in case you haven’t done so during the registration process. You’ll also be able to renew or to disable the ID Protection service for any domain using that same icon and the update will take effect straight away.

ID Protection in Semi-dedicated Hosting

If you choose to order a semi-dedicated server package from us, you’ll be able to add ID Protection to any of your domain names by completing a few easy steps. In case you order a registration/transfer during the account order process, you can get the service together with the domain. If you skip this step and you think things over at a later point in time, you can order the ID Protection service from the Registered Domains section of the Hepsia Control Panel, through which you can administer the entire semi-dedicated server account. This is also the place where you can activate ID Protection for all other domains that you register with us after signup. Renewing or disabling the service is just as easy and will require no more than a couple of clicks.
